Hello gang

Sad user of a macbook pro 15" - the one before they made the keyword work - 2018ish

Keyboard went first a year ago- totally unresponsive
Touchbar died a month ago
This morning woke up to a purple screen of death.

It's completely changed my outlook on computing, normally buying a good laptop to last, now im just scared of getting another macbook - so many possible points of failure. I have a 2012 macbook pro that is still going, its slow but its a tank.

Time to jump, ive been looking at all the hype of the m1. I was hoping for a larger imac or some nice bullet proof macbook at the latest event but looks like ill be waiting until winter for an update. Base macmini with 8gb here I come.

From everything Im reading it should do the job mighty fine, im a graphic designer/web designer with a bit of video editing, nothing edited in 4k so should be fine. Really fancy the imac but cant really justify the price for the same specs as the mini

Just a little rant there. Have a nice time of day!

If it's "2018-ish", it might STILL BE COVERED under Apple's 4-year extended warranty for the keyboard on these models.

You should realize that replacing the keyboard gets you AN ENTIRE NEW TOP CASE, which should address the touchbar issues as well. And a new battery.

Do you have a brick n mortar Apple Store anywhere near?
If so, make an appt at the genius bar and take it to them.

If you DO NOT HAVE an Apple Store near, call Apple directly.
DO NOT call a "3rd-party service provider" -- CALL APPLE.
They might send you a prepaid box in which to return it to them for repair.

But DON'T WAIT to do this.
Time is of the essence.
If you snooze, you loose.

My 2010 macbook air Mojave is chugging this year even with the required tasks to make that faster, but still works.
Test drive the mini as far as graphic design, hopefully the M1 chip made that more productive.
my mini had problems when using Adobe Illustrator.
good luck, sorry for your loss tho

Thanks for the reply! I think they built the older macbook pros much better! Just shopping around for m1 deals, found some macmini m1 for about 640 euro so may just take the plunge!

Again, follow my advice in post 2 above.

Take it to an Apple Store or CALL APPLE.
You may be very VERY happy with the results.
