Is it just me or is Apple allowing developers to use the Built for OS X logo without providing OS X boot disks?

Drive 10 and Systemwords both fail to boot on the iMac. Systemworks because it has System 9, and Drive 10, because the CD has no system on it even though it is printed to boot with "C" from CD. You have to to optimize the damn drive.

This is ridiculous bullcrap. I already returned Systemworks, now I'm going to have to return Drive 10. I know their solution is going to be install OS X on another partition and boot from it to optimize the drive. That's ridiculous and amateurish.

Is anything "finished?" The only software I have that is "finished" is Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Good grief, everything else is missing something, or just not done.

I'm about to install MYOB Accountedge and my money is on something basic being missing. This is almost a silly joke.

well if you had read the box on systemworks it says it donest boot into os x. drive 10 works for me bootable. and so you will stop whining go buy diskwarrior 3 when it comes out. why dont you make your own bootable cd??

I believe there is an update to Drive 10, which is Mac OS X-bootable. You might want to check the website.

A lot of good 6 point type on the top of the box does at an online software store.

Buying different software until I get one that just works isn't going to work for me. If I get one more brand new piece of software that is half-azz I'm selling this toy.

And I just plain don't believe that you're booting retail Drive 10 on a Feb 03 Mac.

Nah, I have the latest version. Their site sucks. A utility developer without a "support" page. A small FAQ, pfft.

Here's a tutorial "http://www.bombich.com/mactips/bootx.html" But I'm not interested. I went through this with DOS and Win 3.x. I didn't know this thing was still practically in Beta. It's cool but it ain't that cool.. wasting time and money.

haha, your gonna sell your imac because you dont do your research and you buy a piece of software. you have only yourself to blame. drive 10 works for me on my dual 1.25, i have access to all current macs, would you like me to try it on the 17 inch imac, 15 inch, emac, ibook, 17 inch powerbook, you name it. by the way, enjoy your mac now, return drive 10 because its not all that great anyways, and buy disk warrior 3 when it comes out.

You can see the requirements for a built for Mac OSX badge here http://developer.apple.com/mkt/swl/agreements.html#macosx I don't think that bootable disks are part of it.

On a professional platform built for professionals I don't have to do any "extensive" research to buy general software. If it says "built for" I can buy with confidence. Clearly Apple's whole OS X campaing is being run at an amateur level for users at a level that leads them to not expect more, or realize how much time their wasting and how shoddy and *$*$5 rigged most of their applications are.

And please, do boot a 1GHz iMac witht he Drive 10 1.1.4 2003 CD. Post a screenshot of your CD contents if you like.

ah yes microsoft, the same company where if your system fails you have to start all over, your ignorance on the mac is really starting to show. It is built for os x. Nortons' 7 runs in 10, drive 10 runs in 10, they all run in 10. i cannot show you the drive 10 cd because we dont use it a work anymore, but i can assure you i have used it many times and boots fine, we use diskwarrior 3 now and its my choice. what makes you think this is apple's fault, norton didnt make the cd os x bootable, not apple. its says built for because it does run in 10. i have a secondary hard drive that i have all those apps on. you are coming to the wrong place to say apple is amateurish, because you will get hammered on this site.

I think we settled all the peripheral issues in PM but I did want to follow up for anyone else with Drive 10. It is a bad release. Not all of the sytem files are on the CD. Micromat will replace the CDs.

For immediate release they recommended BootCD (Versiontracker) and putting Drive 10 on it. Works for some, not for others, works fine for me. Drive 10 is "Built for OS X" had a bad master. Norton is compatible with OS X. It carries the "Built for" logo, but in my book it's "compatible" it it isn't 100% functional on OS X only systems without major rigging (parallel OS install "if" you have an additional partition available.)

thats good to hear. but trust me on this one, get disk warrior 3 when its final version is out, hopefully this month.

Interesting. I got a Dell recently that was "built for" Windows. Had to do a restore (for various reasons). It wouldn't complete a CD boot the first 5 times. Half the drivers were missing off the restore anyway. The Resource CD had everything BUT the sound card driver. (!!??) Hell, it CAME with the damn thing! Final verdict? It's sitting in storage and I pray someone steals it, because my time is WAY more valuable to spend another second on that piece of junk. So 18 years of computer knowledge is shot to hell. But back on topic: Boot disks work on MOST Macs, you CAN make a boot disk in a few minutes, making a 1GB partition is a painless way to go until the boot issue is worked out. These simple solutions, which are temporary, are a reasonable price to pay for a relatively pain-free Mac existence. What's NOT reasonable is going nutty over this simple problem. Surely your life isn't so perfect that the vitriol flows on the simple stuff? Geez, grab a beer.
