Ok...this is weird....and very annoying. Just about all the albums I have purchased from iTunes have several (or all) songs that stop abruptly and/or have a very short, very loud, high-pitched screech during a song. This is driving me nuts.

This problem ONLY happens when the songs are transferred to, and played on, my iPod. The songs play fine on the Mac through iTunes.

I just got a new 80 gig video iPod. The problem is there, and with my old 2nd gen 10 gig iPod. I thought it was the old iPod, so bought the new one. Didn't fix it.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, anything I can do other than wait for Apple tech support to give me the runaround?

Thanks!

Maybe your port or cable is damaged and is corrupting your files? Try a different port and/or cable.

Thanks! But my old iPod used a firewire cable, and then the new iPod uses a new USB cable. And I've even used a different cable with the new iPod.

The song length times are showing correctly on the iPod, but the songs just stop and go to the next. And it's 99% with songs only purchased from iTunes. Some of my regular, personal songs put in from my CD's do it, but not many at all.

How long do they play for? I think I remember a feature where you can 'flip through' your music playing about 10 or 20 seconds of each track to find one you want then press play or something to listen to it. Ages ago it was. Maybe this is set to on somewhere on your iPod? It was a long time ago; maybe I even imagined it  :D

Thanks! I don't think I have that option turned on...or know where I can. Besides...some of the bad songs play long, some play for only a couple seconds. but none of the bad songs play to the end.

I'm reviving this old topic because I have the EXACT same issue and wasn't sure if it had been fixed yet.

Any help?

It's been a few years since this happened, but I've cleared up most of it. I think it might have had something to do with the fact that my old computer just didn't like music I bought from iTunes and stored on an external HD. Sounds weird, but that's all I could figure out.

My problem basically solved when I got a new Mac.

But all is not lost...I got around it by burning a CD of an album I bought on iTunes. Once I had the CD made, I'd delete the original MP3s off the computer and then loaded them back on from the CD. That eliminated the problem AND it strips the DRM. But a major pain in the neck.

That's all I know. Hope it helps.

One solution to cutoff songs

Hey- I found this thread after this happened to me on my 5G iPod. I ripped two CDs- one had the issue- songs skip to the next one 10 seconds from the end- but the other didn't. Strange. Both sets of songs play fine in iTunes. I group selected the songs with the iPod problem in iTunes, then right-clicked, selected Info, then under the Options tab set Gapless Playback to Yes. After re-syncing my iPod the issue was gone- problem solved, at least in this case.

Hmm, this fixed the issue on my iPod, which was infuriating. I sent my sister the songs that didn't play properly on my 5G and they played perfectly on her classic. Now what's my excuse for wanting an upgrade? :D
