Hi all,

I got myself a M-audio Sonica Theater... Cause I wanna have some dolby digital 5.1 sound from my dvds.

But it is not working.

I cant get 5.1 channels from Apples dvd player and also not from VLC player.

Someone help me??

Also, I don't think Apple's DVD player supports 5.1 surround, even with the Sonica Theater.

You might want to try looking for other DVD players.

Of course, I could be wrong, but from what I recall in the past, there is no 5.1 for Apple's DVD player...

VLC is the only app on the Mac that supports 5.1 sound. What you need to do is go to the sound control panel (in OS X) and select the Sonica as the audio output device. Then load up VLC and in one of the menus there is an option to select the sound stream on the DVD. By default this is set to stereo, so you will need to select the 5.1 stream.

Also make sure you have the latest version of VLC (0.5.2 I think).
Ofcourse make sure the DVD has 5.1 sound, some movies are still only in stereo (Tomb Raider is an example).

ehm... why is it then that there is a dolby digital logo in the ''about apple dvd player'' screen.

and how is it possible that a dvd on VLC is not running nicely and smoothly and the same dvd is running perfectly on apples dvd player...
