I was thinking of adding this card to my MacPro5,1, but it has a molex power connector on it, just wondering what that's for exactly?

I'm assuming small USB drives would be bus powered, so I guess the molex is for larger things?

There aren't any spare molex headers coming off the PSU, so how would you power it?

You need a SATA to molex power converter cable such as this one (have to cut off the plastic tab on the left of the SATA end in order to connect to the SATA female port), if you have a vacant #4 SATA HDD slot. Or tap the SATA power port from the second ODD drive as discussed here.

You don't need to power the Molex socket at least not with anything I tried although I don't have any USB3 bus powered devices but it was OK with a USB3 thumb drive & SUB3 externally powered drives.
