Subject: Sonnet PCIe card w/4x Samsung blades configured as Disk Utility's RAID-0 vs. SoftRAID's RAID-0

I'm curious to know which of the RAID-0 setup yields the best performance. I ask, as SoftRAID claims their setup is 86% faster/better than Apple's Disk Utility (which I find hard to believe).

I've have SoftRAID full version for a number of years and quite honestly using it for spinners at time configuring RAID-0 I never saw it was really any better than Apple's Disk Utility's RAID-0 setup.

Now it could be configuring RAID-0 on a Buch of Samsung blades is a direct story, but at this time I'm simply curious.

At this time waiting for my MP7,1 to be delivered early Feb 2020 I'm reaching out to others here who might be able to answer my question about this comparison. I will be testing these two RAID-0 setups myself after I receive my MP7,1.

Thanks.... :)

I am planning to get Promise Pegasus J2i and 2 HDD to set RAID 0. do I need to use Soft raid or Apple Raid assistant? which one more stable? Does anyone have a problem by using soft raid for HDD?

IMO, you should be able to use either. You may or will have to install SoftRAID driver software for using SoftRAID.

Before settling on which one to use I would advice you test the data integrity and proper RAID-0 behavior for both before deciding on which one to use.

FYI... SoftRAID is owned by OWC, and the original team of people who developed and marketed SoftRAID came for Apple's Disk Utility team.
