I want!

I would like to know if it's compatible with the sonnet USB 3 adaptor.

This thingy? http://www.sonnettech.com/product/usb3expresscard34.html

Reading the notes under Technical Specifications, it seems to be barely capable of anything... no hubs or "non-storage devices". Worst of all, it appears to only accept hard drives with their own power supply - not the portable bus-powered kind that are so common.

My only question is whether it allows daisy chaining... No matter, I'm already discouraged from buying. :(

It was better when they came with an express 84 slot rather than that stupid SD slot. Who even needs SD cards?

Hoping to set up on christmas. I am having a problem with the promise pegasus that I own. I want to run them head to head I am looking to run 4 64gb kingston ssd's and compare.

well i did a fast setup. the single ssd in a bay external has not been found. I have tried a few things so far. I just managed to do a firmware update without trying. This has me a bit worried as I have done one to this mini and it worked. It could be that having these pieces hooked up caused a new firmware update. I will post as soon as I figure out what happened> Well the mini sees the express card t bolt adapter and it powers the tempo express card but I can't pick up any drives on it. I will swap some data cables and test a few cases out oh well

That's disappointing, Philip; I hope you get it going. Did you read the comments in the reviews section? Some are reporting kernel panics while using it. The issue seems to be the default driver that comes with the card. One user describes a conflict with the Firewire 800 driver while both the Express Card and FW 800 are in use.

Would running an eSATA drive through a connection such as this choke the performance of Thunderbolt, I wonder? You know how it is if you daisy-chain a FW 800 drive and FW 400 drive, both will run at FW 400 speed. Does the same happen with Thunderbolt?

now is working. I am using 3 kingston ssds in a raid0 inside this box.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132016

Right now my read is 194MB/s my write is 115MB/s

I knew 200 was the max but I was hoping for better write speed.

this box will push 420 read 380 write with a mac pro and a decent sata card.

the sonnet card is said to get to 200MB/s max I have no idea what the adapter can handle as the sonnet tempo card is the fastest on the market.

A real fast judgement is this :

130 the adapter
90 the express card
200 the case
total 420 plus drives.

up to 16tb maybe 24tb. the max speed may be 190 read 130 write.

t-bolt lacie now 450 speed is 185 read 110 write 1tb of data. note this is stock oem 500gb hdds

promise pegasus r6 6tb now 1800 fast easy 300 read write.

the card has a purpose but max speed of 200 is really meh.

I don't think this boots I will run more tests but this may only work for a few people if it does not boot.

Those are pretty low write numbers for a ssd group :( i would be curious on hd's what you get if you ever try it :)

I was hoping this was going to be a cheap storage solution with usb 3 but i guess i need to wait and see :)

yeah I was a bit disappointed . I know the card is 200 mbs max so the 190 was okay but the 110 was really annoying. As of today sonnet's website says their usb3 card does not work with the t-bolt adapter. I am also going to drop in some 500gb hdds pulled from new mac mini's see how they work.

Oh it does not boot, but I was pretty sure of that going in. Still if you buy the adapter for 130 or so and find a cheap express card you may get speeds of 110 which is 50% faster then fw800.

I was hoping to get 195 read 185 write with the "best" express card.

I no longer have any 3tb hdds on hand but I do have some hdds to use in it. will get back later.

I put 4 500gb hitachi's in the 8 bay case i setup a 2tb raid0 read speeds are 192 write speeds are 107-110. so you can use this setup to run 8 drives but not very fast. in fact this ran 2 drives at 120mbs read and 80 mb/s write . I will do more testing but the so call best express card is not as fast as I would hope. I got it at a low price of 77 dollars but it runs as high as 160. I am going to look for a 30 dollar card maybe this one

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/EXP34SATA2F1/ I am running a 4 x 500 gb raid0 as a time machine it is working most of the time it does 105mb/s but drops to 30mb/s and peaks at 125mb/s I am going to run the 4 drives for a week and see if they crash doing time machine I also ordered the low cost card from owc for 20 bucks plus 4 to ship it is worth a shot. it may boot and run at 110-120 mbs for 20 bucks not bad. I may return the more expensive one I got from amazon.
