Sonoma breaks MPEG playback

Yep, I can confirm that an MPEG-1 video that used to work is now exhibiting the same issue (no video, weird sound).
I couldn't find a sample, so I made this one mpeg1video_mp2audio.mpeg
I doesn’t work in QuickTime in Monterey 12.7 (21G816) either. It works in IINA and VLC.

So far, I can confirm QuickTime Player in Sonoma (Beta 3, RC) sharts in its pants as described above with MPEG-1 files on both Apple Silicon and Intel.
Oddly enough, MPEG-2 files (.m2V) seem to play back just fine..
VLC, Movist, IINA have no problems with them in playback on Sonoma.
PowerPoint uses macOS system frameworks to play video so it'll have to be fixed at the OS level, hopefully there's a bug report in on this matter.

some Benny hill videos run perfect on quick time using a Monterey MacBook Pro '12
while they stutter at first on a MacBook Air Sonoma m1.
while The last terminator movie worked great on both Macbooks.

Good news, mpg files now play in Sonoma 14.1 Final build.
Bad news, if those mpgs have audio, it just doesn't play (no sound) in QT Player.
They play fine in Movist and VLC though.

Glad it is working for you. Still not working for me after updating to 14.1 in QT. Do you mean that if there is audio the video will not play at all? I tried muting the audio but the video still did not play.
As the same behaviour was reported in Monterey and Ventura, you could say that macOS is
It was probably depreciated or affected by a security enhancement a while ago and nobody noticed because very few people use MPEG-1 in 2023.
Have the same issue here, didn't seem to happen for me before Sonoma, but it has broken all the old Mpeg 1 videos in my Photos library, what is also weird is I can't search for the files anymore either, I can export them and play with VLC but that is not the point. They need to fix this!
