I just updated to Sonoma, and when my MacBook restarted (which is docked to my Apple Thunderbolt Display), the colors looked different. The first thing I thought was that maybe True Tone had automatically been turned on (I leave it off). When I went to the display settings, the option for True Tone is no longer there. If I open up my MacBook's screen, True Tone appears as an option for that screen, but not for the Thunderbolt Display.

Now as far as to why the display looks different, that could just be because I selected to change to the new Sonoma wallpaper, and that may just be throwing me off.

But as for the lack of Thunderbolt Display having True Tone... is that new to Sonoma? I couldn't find anything online, and I leave the option off, so it could have been dropped in a previous update and I wouldn't have noticed it.

I've just checked (still on Ventura) and i can't see an option on my Thunderbolt display with my Mbp (M1 Pro 14 Inch) lid closed. Are you sure you had the option on Ventura?
It may indeed have been dropped when Ventura was released. I can’t find any official mention of when it was dropped though.

The current Apple support page mentions it working with Pro Display XDR and Studio Display.

Pre Ventura Reddit and MacRumors posts mention it working on even third party and second party monitors alongside the Thunderbolt Display.

Old old posts say the only stand alone monitor it works on is the Thunderbolt Display.

So it seems they launched it with Thunderbolt Display support, then later they added third parties. Then at some unannounced point they removed Thunderbolt Display. I am not sure if second party displays were removed too (LG)?

The lid needs to be open for displays without cameras.
