19,1 iMac, 14.1.1, Sonoma FaceTime query:

If I am sitting erect directly in front of my iMac camera, why do I appear shoved over to the left of the FaceTime screen? The iMac screen sits exactly perfect horizontally on my table edge. The iMac screen is tilted almost straight up and down. Again I am directly in front of my camera screen. Is there an adjustment I can make in the FaceTime app and move me to the right? I do not want to sit askew just for FaceTime.

Is Center Stage turned on? Perhaps it’s adjusting the scene. Try turning it off.

Sure. Center stage is a feature of recent Apple operating systems that takes advantage of the wide field of view of recent Apple cameras to try to keep people centered in video calls. Something in the way your room is arranged might be confusing it. A big clue would be if the field of view changes as you move.

You turn it on and off in Control Center when a call is on progress. This article explains it on Sonoma.

This might not be it, but I cannot think of any other reason you shouldn’t be in the center of your video.

I checked here to make sure your iMac is supported, but I think I missed that it’s only supported with a Studio Display attached.

I noticed this issue on my M2 MBP during a job interview via MS Teams. I was sitting dead centre to the laptop but on video I was offset to the right.

I'll check centre stage tomorrow to see if I can centre the look
