I upgraded to Sonoma a few weeks ago from Ventura and during the setup it basically acted like a new install and forced me to create a new user account, etc.

So I did that but named it the same as my previous account. When it logged me in, my desktop, dock, spaces, and other custom settings were all still there. My ~Library was still all there. But it deleted all my apps and changed my computer name like a new install.

I've been a Mac user for a long time and that had never happened before but I just thought ok, whatever.

But I just upgraded to 14.1.1 and the exact same thing happened.

Anyone else experience this?

Next time I might try unplugging all external drives before running an OS update. Because I can't think of what might be causing this.
