Sony 4K TV as Monitor

How are people connecting their Macs to their TV to watch 4K material? I have a 2014 Mac Pro and late a 2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15".

Will it work to connect the computer to the TV and watch Netflix in 4K through the web browser?

Do I just need to connect the HDMI cable and set the display resolution to 3840 × 2160? Is there anything else to set?

Yes, all you need just the HDMI cable and set the correct resolution.

It could depend on which Sony 4k TV you have. Last year's models will not have H.265 support, which Netflix 4K requires. I don't know if the Mac will cover this.

I think you misunderstood his question, he wants to run Netflix from the mac, so there is not such limitation. That limitation ( H265 support) is related to the TV embedded NetFlix.
Here im running Sony 4k Tv using HDMI from nMP with zero issues.

I understood the question. I wasn't sure if the H.265 has to be all the way down the pipeline, just like HDCP, that is why I used words like "It could depend".

Having looked around, I have not found any information on Netflix 4K being available on a Mac. Everything seems to relate to 4K TVs with H.265. Has anyone tried 4K Netflix on a Mac?

only 30hz now. I need the nMP to output HDMI 2.0 for 60hz. My TV is HDMI 2.0 ready, so I am waiting for either a firmware update or Thunderbolt to HDMi 2.0 adapter from Apple.

I think HDMI 2.0 in nMP is not essencial for 60hz cause down the road an thunderbolt/mdp to HDMI 2.0 adapter will be available.

As you asked, im running 4k resolution ( 4096 x 2160 ) at 24Hz cause i just use it for movie playback (it doesn't need higher rates ). As my main display im currently with TBD and willing to purchase a 4k monitor later this year.

Hmm. I also have 4096x2160@24hz but isn't your TV's native resolution 3840x2160? Just wondering.

Yeah, thats odd because it shows up both options in OSX pref. I think ill compare the quality of both resolutions.
