I'm trying use my sony digital 8 camcorders by using the firewire 800 port on my iMac 24inch.

Result: No image.

I have 2 sony Digital 8 camcorders: TRV 265 and TRV 238

Both work fine when connected using the Firewire 400 port on the Mac, in imovie etc, yahoo messenger and CamTwist etc

Any ideas whats up?

Thnx

What kind of FW800 cable are you using? Directly FW800 to mini-FW, or FW800-400 adapter to FW400-mini cable? I've used the latter setup successfully with FW800 ports and FW cameras, so I know it can work, but it's possible that there's something funky with your adapter.

It's also possible that either the cable itself or even the port have something wrong with them. Have you attached anything else successfully to the port? How about anything else using the same cable? That is, if you're using an 800-400 adapter, try attaching a different FW400 device to it and make sure that's ok. If so, and if the FW400-mini cable works with the FW400 port, then I'm stumped.

Also, if you know that the cables and ports are ok, does the Mac recognize that there's a camera attached at all? Open up System Profiler, go to FireWire, and see if the camera is listed there when it's attached and powered on.

Panic over!!

Just restarted my Mac and now both cams are working fine!

I can also switch between the two "live" on air

I guess the system needed to learn the new connection

Thanks for your help anyway!
