That there big London
Hi

I am in the process of convincing my father to buy a 17" Intel iMac instead of a new PC.

One thing he wants to do is transfer movies from his Sony DCR-PC106E Digital Camcorder into iMovie. I do not know anything about this.

The camera has a firewire port (iLink), a slot for a Sony Memorystick and it uses MiniDV tapes.

Is this camera going to work with iMovie?

Cheers
JP

Yes, that set up will work. Be sure that you get the correct firewire cable. Most likely, do check your manual, you will need a 4 pin to 6 pin cable (one end looks a lot smaller then your typical firewire port).

FWIW I've now tried it and it works perfectly. It's the first time I've seen a camcorder work with a Mac and I'm very impressed.

Ta all.
Superleccy.

The connector into the camera is a weak point. Make sure not to stress that connection as to fix a broken port on a camera is pricey. Glad to here your enjoying editing.

Cheers.
