I picked up a Sony a6000 camera and also a zoom lens for it. I'm trying to learn how to use it, but not very familiar with it at all right now. It seems like every time I go to use the camera the lens will be completely extended/zoomed in. I actually have to use the lock on the side to keep it from extending. I was taking some pictures tonight and it kept wanting to zoom in without me twisting it. It's a SEL18200, I thought these don't have power zoom, thought that was SELP18200.

It's very likely I'm just doing something stupid, but what am I doing wrong?

Heavy lenses like that will creep if you point them downwards. You need to get used to holding the body with one hand and supporting the lens with the other.

Hope this helps.

Cheers :)

I did find a little info on that while I was looking around after posting this. Is it normal for it to do it that fast though? What I read was they had slow creep, to me that's not very slow. Thanks for the reply

I can't remember how fast the creep was (I had one of these for a while but sold it because it was just too unwieldy for me).
Was it bought 2nd hand or new? If new you could try sending it back for another and hope to get a slower creep, or buy one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/LensBand-Zoom-Lens-Creep-Reducer/dp/B0050KEEW0 which works according to the reviews.

Cheers :)

Thanks for that link, sounds like it's just a band you put her on the lens, I'll have to look into it a little more. I have some of those bands that might fit so maybe I can try that. The lens was purchased used, but from Adorama, I may email them and see if they would exchange it if they have another used one. I appreciate the help.

No problem. Some people apparently use a charity wristband if you have any of those to try.

Cheers :)

you can also use gaffers tape as well. I have a Nikkor 70-210mm E series lens that i use on my A7r, and it has zoom creep bad - but some gaffers will take care of that
