Well, i'm thinking of getting a 2nd camera and i'm wondering which one is better and anyone has one of these? Opinions? Is Olympus or Sony better?

But - more constructively - why don't you check out dpreview - they have plenty of information about all types of digital cameras, and some excellent forums. Also have a look at "Digital Camera Resource" and "Steve's Digicams", both of which are on the DPReview links page.

Most of the big name brands are pretty good these days (although each has its share of clunker models - which is where the forums are useful). To a large extent it comes down to which make/model you feel most comfortable using.

In my case I preferred Nikon 35mm, but now prefer Canon digital.

I'm a sony fan for digital cameras. I have a Cybershot V1, and it's great. You can see lots of samples on my website. Highly scaled down for the web of course. (The pics that look all grainy are from my cell-phone)

If you just wanna get a good deal, check out dealsea. There's always some crazy deals on there. There's a nice Canon for $204 right now.

I have a sony 5 Megapixel camera. P9 or P10. Its quite good, but the lense seems a bit loose.

We're just brought my sister a Fuji-film 6Mpx camera for her birthday, £150, and its simply superb!! Instant picture taking (unlike the Sony, it takes ages to get into focus).

Apparently the latest Sony ones are very good though, with the special lenses (Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar?) but I've never used them.

Ive been much happier with my sisters Fuji camera than my Sony one.

Use quite a lot of Olympus ones at work, they are quite safe to use, straight forward and get the job done! Seem much better built aswell compared to my Sony one. They are more rounded and robust. Usually better value too!

my friend has a olylmpus and i hate it. The UI is dreedfull. and the pictures don't look good for a 3 MPs. I have a 2 MP which looks better then her 3MP. Either go for nikon or canon.

I'm about to buy a Fuji F10 when I get round to getting to the store. Apparently, you need to play a little to get great results but some of them are stunning.

Go and have a look at pbase.com and check out the images from the cameras that you're considering. You'll get to see the shots that people take in the real world - and since they usually have the full EXIF data, you can compare how the different cameras cope with conditions (ie does full auto mean over/under exposure etc)

It is mostly subjective. I agree with the poster above who said look to dpreview.com and stevesdigicams.com. There you can read reviews and look in the forums for specific info on the two cameras you are interested in.

From these options, I'd choose Sony. I think their cameras are quite good. My ex-girlfriend's Sony was as good, or arguably better than my Canon IXUS40 (or SD300, I believe), particularly at low to mid lighting.

Actually, I think that any of the new, small to midsized point-and-shoot cameras will give comparable results. Its just the menu system and options that are the deciding factor for me.

Sony isn't bad, but I find that their LCD isn't as good as on my Canon.

I love Sony digital cameras. Now for those who don't, guess what. Chances are one of the most important components in your camera is made by Sony, no matter what brand it its. Most of the digital camera CCDs are made by Sony. Bassicly that Olympus camera has a Sony CCD. Same with any Nikon cameras people are recommending. Here is a good thread about this:

Well I'm gonna go against the grain here and say go with the Olympus. I've got a D-595 (5 mp) that I just love.

The S40 is alright, but the new S60 and S90 are stupid. The P73 and 93A wre much better. As someone said all companies have their bland models but in general I love Sony Cybershot cameras.
