Why no talk about this upcoming phone?

Sony seems to finally take the smartphone business seriously now with the upcoming XZ4

Some confirmed leaks

  • A 6.5-inch flat screen
  • A 21:9 aspect ratio
  • No headphone port
  • A Snapdragon 855 chipset
  • Highest benchmark score ever tested 395,721 (beats the upcoming Galaxy S10)
  • In screen fingerprint scanner
  • Better camera

Unfortunately, people don’t buy into Sony phones because once this one is released, the XZ4 Premium will be released, then the month after that the XZ5 will be released which is a little bit off putting for most buyers.

What is annoying is their releases never make sense. The XZ2 Premium had a double lens in its camera (with decent results, I believe) but the XZ3 was released with just one lens?
What?

Sony are so far out of touch its unreal. And it’s a shame as I do like their version of Android.

Nothing here seems that impressive though. What's the battery capacity?

It sounds like the very basics of every 2019 Flagship at this point.

Wholeheartedly agree with OP. Only a matter of time until someone makes a 21:9 abomination which will be touted as the best screen ever. These tall phones + tall screens are getting out of hand. I hate 18:9 screens on phones as much as I hate 16:9 screens on laptops (16:10, 4:3, 3:2 FTW).

And it finally will be happening. Seriously, a 21:9 screen...on a cell phone. Totally ridiculous and unnecessary. I hope it fails miserably so other companies don't jump on a loony 21:9 bandwagon. Totally insane.

Why is it so much to ask for...a flagship spec modern 16:9 (semi) bezel-less phone with a non-curved screen, no ridiculous hole punch-outs or notches, and large battery. That will be supported in the U.S. on the major carriers.

For whatever reason, Sony hasn't been able to capture a piece of the public interest.
In the era of physical media Sony were the Apple of consumer electronics. Consumers lost interest in the brand when they repeatedly hamstrung their hardware with proprietary music formats, ports etc.

They have learned but its too late now that phones are a commodity that is a big screen and software powered by Android.

This!!!
I’ve always loved Sony phones and their almost stock Android experience. But they take too long to release (2-6 months at times) after the announcement. To be fair Apple’s 10 days is sometimes too hard for me to wait for :)... Then shortly after flagship launch Sony announces a new version making your current purchase obsolete.

I think Apple google and even Samsung (flagships like Galaxy S#/Note only) have better release cycles. Release one flagship device per year with a few form factors for users to choose. Heck even OnePlus is quick at releasing their product and gives users a few months before announcing/launching the ‘T’ upgrades ...

Bottom line. Sony is saturating the market with multiple phone releases per year of devices no one wants rather than make one or two phones per year that everyone will want.

Again I love Sony but IMHO they should conform to how Apple/Google launch phones or give up on smartphones.

XA is plastic unibody, no frame sandwich like iPhons and previous XA
