Ok I finally got my first mac today. Bought it off of ebay for a good price. Had to wait 2 weeks to get it which was torture. Now... I finally get it. And there is no DVI adaptor int he box  not to mentino I dont have a mouse that plugs into the USB (which is my fault) so can I buy these 2 things at best buy? Or is there another way to hook my moniter up?

You can definitely buy a USB mouse at Best Buy. I don't know about the mini-DVI to DVI adapter...I think I saw them at the CompUSA near my house.

I've seen the mini-DVI to DVI adapters at CompUSA in the Apple section, and of course the Apple Store will have them. They're not really too common, but most places that sell Macs should have them. As for a USB mouse, just about any USB mouse will do. If you get a fancy one, check the box to make sure it says it's compatible with Macs. If it's simple (ie, two buttons and a scroll wheel), it'll almost certainly just work.

First, you don't mention what Mac you bought, I'll assume you have a MBP from your signature.

If that is the case then DO NOT purchase the mini-DVI adapter. The MBP has a full size DVI port so you will need a standard DVI-VGA or DVI-TV adapter.

Also, neither of those things come with the MBP as standard so unless the seller specified these items you should not have expected these items.

I thought I got a DVI/VGA converter with my MBP but it could be that I've been using the one from my PowerBook...

Oh yes, sorry my bad! It's the MacBook that doesn't come with the mini-DVI to VGA and the MacBook Pro doesn't come with the composite/S-Video out ports (or adapter).

I bought the TV adapter, sorry for jumping in a bit hastily. The DVI-VGA adapter definitely should have been in there then. Just to give you the heads up though you don't have to use Apple's DVI-VGA adapter - you can use any from another card. I use one from an old PC card that I keep in my laptop bag.

I would contact the seller regarding the adapter though. That was rightly as pointed out a standard part with the MBP.

Sorry for not specifying... I got a mac mini 1.5 ghz core solo. The main reason was so I could hold off getting a MBP til college.

I can get a mouse for $20. I just need a place to get the adapter. The only electronics stores I live close to are Best Buy and Circuit City. The Apple Store is a pretty good drive.

I'm presuming you need a DVI -> VGA adapter. They're pretty cheap and most electronic stores should carry them. Ask for a DVI-I -> VGA adapter. It the other way around, VGA -> DVI that are rare and expensive but I don't think you need one of those.

The DVI out at the back of the Mac mini is a DVI-I out which means it carries both DVI (digital) and VGA (analogue) in the same signal, this means going from the DVI plug to the VGA plug is simple and cheap.

Was it advertised on eBay as coming with the adapter? Because if so you should be able to ask the seller to provide it.

It speficially said that the adapter came in the box. The seller is going to send me one but I would like to buy one anyways because I have been waiting for soooo long to get this mac. It's my first one.
