I was really hoping for some sort of confirmation of a Hulu app by around this time before launch. Has anyone heard any updated rumors?

just because their hasn't been any confirmations, it doesn't mean it still won't arrive sometime after.

Full Article
"The news isn't absolutely concrete, but AllThingsD has heard directly from several insiders inside Hulu's parent companies: Simply put, Hulu would love to serve up its Web video content to iPad users. The iPad is expected to be a soaring success, and it's a device that's expressly designed for high-quality media consumption in a portable package. With a mobile Hulu solution in front of millions of new iPad users, the company could make a lot of money from embedded advertising.

Those same insiders have suggested that for the iPad Hulu may abandon the free-to-view business model it's followed so far for the desktop and adopt a subscription-based system instead. The iPad-Hulu income would offset money "lost" in keeping the desktop implementation free and may even turn a profit if it proves very successful--while putting Hulu on all three screens in our modern lives: The TV, the PC and our mobile media devices."

I kind of sucks though because the article makes it sound as it they will charge iPad owner to use the App so that the desktop version will remain free. They need to bring in revenue somewhere.

I read an article last year stating that Hulu was already considering moving to some sort of pay or subscription model this year.

I think if they stay free, iPad users may have to pay for the app, but i doubt it will be subscription.

I'm not going to pay for an app with advertisements that pop out throughout the video. I'd rather have a free app with paid subscription content. And keep it modest: I won't pay more than $14.99 a month.

I don't use Hulu since it went corporate because of the ads and the limited content, but I do like what it does. I think a paid version has potential to be a lot better.

Hulu is owned by like Fox and NBC so it has always been corporate.

Do you watch any basic cable channels like say a TNT, SyFy, USA, Tru, National Geographic, Ovation, etc etc?

They all double charge you.

If you don't think the media companies are going to continue to try and double dip when they can, you are in for a surprise.

Yup. People already pay for cable access and most cable channels are full of commercials.

Regardless of that, I think Hulu is going to have a hard time getting people to pay for content. What with cable television and things like netflix already on the market, it'll be hard to continue to squeeze recession hit consumers for more money. Keep the commercial breaks going the way they are, not enough revenue? Add more commercials. Offer a subscription to those that want to watch no or less commercials.

I for one will not pay for Hulu content because I'm too cheap.

Initially you are correct, they will limit commercials.

Remember when you bought cable because there were fewer commercials?

Yup, Hulu will sneak ads back in as soon as possible to their subscription service.

There is no way I would subscribe if they keep the main website free. Perhaps at $1 a month, but I wouldn't go much past 2-3.

If they charge once for an app, I'd pay maybe $10-20.

If they start charging also for the main site, then I might consider a sub, but I would hope the same sub would work for the main site and the app.

Just looked it up, seems you're right, it always has been corporate.

Yes, I'm aware that cable prices gouge you, but I've accepted it as a fact of life for the convenience. I will use Hulu if it meets my needs, and I won't if it doesn't. I don't use Hulu now for the most part because I can't access it on enough devices and I don't like the ads. If I can pay a fee for more shows, no ads and easier access, I will, depending on what the fee is.

Very true, but there is a lot of On-Demand stuff with cable television that is commercial-free, and with a DVR you can skip over all the commercials.

For people who don't use cable and use Hulu a lot, their needs will be different than mine, which is fine. For me, Hulu is going to have to be a supplement to my cable television, which right now it is not.
