Sort of wish iOS 7/8 looked more like Yosemite

Anyone else feel this way? Yosemite has a bit less stark whiteness, a little more texture but maintains the flatness nicely.

And whatever font they chose for Yosemite is really nice, I think.

Overall, it's less harsh to me than iOS. And the icons are nice to look at, not as child-like as IOS.

Any chance of iOS 9 adopting some of those visual cues?

Since iOS is a simpler version of OS X, I think it's only fitting the interface reflects that. Both operating systems use Helvetica Neue.

Like iOS, it’s an in–house (modified) version of Helvetica Neue and very obviously geared towards retina displays.

OS X Yosemite's icons have more depth and details compared to iOS. From what I've read that's what some people want on iOS as well. Not sure if it translates well to smaller screens though.

This is not an accurate statement. By any stretch, it does not look "exactly the same."

They use exactly the same font, exactly the same translucency effects, the same shading, the same colors. Many of the control icons (e.g. brightness, volume) are the same. The only real differences are the standard controls that require user interaction, which is a good thing, because touch and mouse need to be handled differently. So sure, 'exactly the same' is a hyperbole, but overall, the core elements are the same.

I think it's a shame Apple kept the rounded corners and window gradients. In that regard I wish they went the iOS 7 way. There was a bug where the Finder copy window was without rounded corners and it looked a lot nicer IMO.

Look at the shadings and other nuances in Yosemite version of Safari, Messages, Maps, just to name a few that come to mind. And most of the key icons also have a different look: Contacts, iMessage, FaceTime, Maps (do I need to name them all?) It's all pretty different looking -- more subtle, less stark white, more depth and texture. (And I don't even have a retina Macbook, this is on a 11" Air)

It's one thing to argue that iOS looks better, or to say its different but just as nice, it's another to say its "the same," or "almost exactly the same."

The point of arguing THAT, I guess, is just to undercut having a discussion about this in the first place, or general need on your part for contrarianism, I guess.

Haha, I understand why you would accuse me of being contrarian — it does seem as if I like to automatically disagree with every new post. But I only disagree if I actually disagree, you won't find many post of me agreeing

I have looked at all the apps you have named, and the shading looks the same across the platforms to me (its often inverted, but that is because of screen space and platform particularities). I obviously must agree about the icons, but I was also never claiming that all icons were the same — I have merely said that 'many of the control icons are the same'.

I also find it interesting that you didn't contest my post about the font, translucency effects and the color scheme. Which is in direct contradiction to your original post. So you do agree that iOS 8 and Yosemite are not that different after all?

Leman, it's cool by me. But I never said Yosemite was "very different", I said I liked a lot of the little touches better than what they did with iOS8.

I guess "different" or "very different" is relative.
