Hi guys,

This is a recent problem which I cannot for the life of me work out. Essentially the sound balance on my macbook pro automatically defaults back to being slightly towards the right. This happens every time the computer goes to sleep or is restarted.

I can change it back but it never stays that way. Any ideas? Resetting PRAM and SMC doesn't fix it.

Try booting into Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

See if the undesired change happens. If it doesn't, it points to a third party app conflict, possibly After Effects. If it still happens, it's possible it'll go away on a subsequent normal boot because of the other actions Safe Mode performs.
