I'm looking for a surround sound solution for my 2008 Mac Pro, one that would provide 5.1 analog outputs, and work under both OS X and Windows 7. My primary use is for gaming, and most games don't support surround sound output via the onboard optical out.
I previously had the Firewave, but it had two problems. One was no Windows support, and the second is that it died on me even in OS X. After going back to just 2 speakers, I realized I got quite used to the surround sound in World of Warcraft.
I'd really prefer a PCIe based solution, instead of USB if possible, but willing to go with something that works. Ideally, I'd like to keep the cost under $200. Anyone have practical experience with any of the surround solutions out there, and can verify they work under both Windows and OS X for games?
