I have a Macbook mid 2009 running Yosemite. I have a jack from some old headphones stuck and broken inside the audio output. Impossible to remove from the outside.

As a result, the speakers are always muted and i can't connect any external speakers because of the broken jack.

I am almost certain that I could choose to have sound from both internal speakers and audio out at the same time on my old windows computers, but how do i manage this in OSX?

Another solution could be to "turn off" the audio out, but i don't know if that is possible.

Anyone got a good solution?

No can do.

You could get some USB or Bluetooth headphones or speakers that should work. You can also use AirPlay to send sound to other speakers.

Well, you could go in there with a soldering iron and rewire the jack.
Probably void the warranty though.
The warranty is long expired, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility of damaging something in the process.

What? So it is impossible to find some setting that will let me use sound from the two outputs at the same time?

Maybe i should try to open it up and see if it is possible to get the jack out from the inside??

There is no software setting to accomplish this, because the switch from headphones to internal speakers is a hardware switch.

That would be my first choice.

I removed the keyboard and it doesn't seem to be easier from the inside.

I however don't understand how it can be a hardware issue? I do have the startup chime. ??
