Sound inop in mountain lion

I just upgraded to MP from Lion and Now the sound is set on mute and settings are locked out. Under sound settings its locked to mute and wont let me change the settings. Any way to fix this.

reboot to get sound working

A reboot should do the trick. It did for me.
