This is an issue I’ve had for maybe 1.5 to 2 years but I’ve been living with it.

Speakers don’t work with any music/video and the headphone jack does not work. It does work with Bluetooth fine.

Here’s what I’ve done:

Cleaned the inside of the jack to within an inch of its life. There’s no indication that any debris was ever there.

Reset as a new iPad. Did not change a thing.

Here’s the weird part. When I set a timer, the speakers work with that.

WTF is wrong with this thing? C’mon guys, we can do this!

My guess is a faulty headphone jack. Alarms often come via the built in speakers, all others output muted, leads me to that assumption as well as the fact that you set it up again with the same issue.

I think you’re right. I didn’t mention that the control center shows that headphones are connected even with nothing in there.

Internet searches indicate this is a pricey fix. Might just buy a new iPad.

Contact Apple support and ask them for a replacement device.

So this sounds like the old stuck in headphone mode problem. You've probably read some of the thousands of sites out there with instructions to try to resolve it. Have you tried the reset DFU suggestion? I haven't needed to try it, but it would be interesting to know if it helps you.

Just looked up the DFU restore. How is that different from doing a simple factory reset (which I’ve tried)?

If it is different, I’ll try it in the next couple of days. Nothing to lose at this point.

Technically, I don't know what the difference is. It may have more to do with how you access restore functionality when your device is frozen, but DFU restore is mentioned on several sites for that stuck in headphone mode issue.
