On my iMac 21.5" (2013), the sound disappeared after reinstalling macOS. After that, I tried reinstalling it again, but there was no result. macOS does not detect the audio chip, only "Digital Out," and the volume control is inactive. However, the startup chime is present when turning on the iMac, so I assume this is not a hardware issue, right? Also, when I plug in headphones, sound comes from only one side.

I have already tried various solutions: resetting NVRAM/PRAM, checking audio drivers, restarting the audio system, booting into Safe Mode, but nothing worked. What else can I try?

Are you trying to use the internal speakers or external ones? If external, unplug them, startup iMac, wait for it to be fully booted up and then plug the speakers back in again. Identify the speakers you want to use if not the internal. If they have another connection port, have you tried it too just to see what happens?

Do you have an optical cable plugged into the optical port? If so, pull that plug and see if the internal speakers are available?

Are you going through a hub? iMac to Hub to speakers? If so, test bypassing the hub with a direct-to-iMac connection. If that works, plug the hub back in again and then the speaker connection.

Which version of macOS? Trying to use the OCLP hack or just last version that is compatible with that 2013?
