I wasn't sure whether to post this on the Windows on Mac forum or this but!

I purchased the new 2.93 GHz 24-inch iMac yesterday at the Apple Store and the everything works perfectly in the Mac OS. In Boot Camp, however, the sound quality gets really bad.

Completed Windows Update, and even visited realtek.com/downloads to download/install the newest HD Audio Codec Driver (R2.18, 2009/3/9) for Windows XP. Still experiencing the really poor sound quality. My aluminum Macbook's speakers sound amazing by comparison. Anyone else with the new iMacs experiencing this problem in Boot Camp?

After you installed Windows, did you go back and install the drivers and other software from the OSX system disk (disk 1)? There is also a Bootcamp 2.1 update from Apple that you must install before install XP SP3.

I noticed when I first installed Windows the shutdown and restart sounds were loud and tinny before I installed the drivers from the OSX disk. Even after that, I had to play with the EQ in Realtek to get it to sound better.

Haver you tried with external speakers?

I don't have any. :(

That was the first thing I did. I just checked what version of Boot Camp I have and it says 2.0. I already installed XP SP3 on the Boot Camp drive, too... So I need to redo the whole thing?

I will try that, too! I'm very tech inept so problems like this really throw me off. Thank you both!

Ahh, still having problems.

I System Restored back to when I installed the Boot Camp drivers and then downloaded/installed the Boot Camp 2.1 update. Then there was no sound at all! So I went back to realtek.com and downloaded the HD Audio Codec again. Sound came back but it sounds exactly like it used to - really tinny.

This is so annoying.

edit; Called AppleCare and they just instructed me to contact Microsoft. :|
