My sound port and speakers on my 17" PB do not work anymore. I turn on the PB and fantly hear the standard mac sound then no sound whatsoever.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I take it you've checked to see you haven't got the mute button activated?

Check the Sound Panel in the System Preferences, see if you've got a second audio output device selected.

Run a permissions repair (very unlikely).

After that it's probably hardware related.

Still no sound after I tried. I read some other post that people who upgraded to 10.3.9 have the same problem. I wonder if 10.4 fixes it?

Did the problem start after upgrading to 10.3.9?
If so, 10.4 may solve. Or you'll have to reinstall 10.3 and upgrade to 3.8 and no further. Simple as that.

I have 10.3.9 on my 17" PB, no audio problems at all.

I've not heard of any audio problems after a .9 upgrade that weren't app related.

Nothing makes any sound at all?

I tried doing a clean install from 10.3.x - 10.3.8 and no audio. Only sound is a very very faint mac start up sound. I just tried with Tiger and still no sound just a very faint mac start up sound.

Sorry for the length of time in getting this update posted. I had to take the Powerbook in and it was a logic board problem. So far, the problem has not reaccord.

I hope that it did not take that long to get your computer fixed. Glad so know you are back in action with sound and all.
