iPod Sound Quality with iPod Speakers

I have tried the Bose Sounddock 10, and the sound quality is not as crisp and clear as it is on a simple stereo that is connected to the iPod through a headphone jack.

What dedicated iPod dock, or iPod-ready stereo, produces the crispest and clearest sound for the iPod?

My computer playing the songs in iTunes is not crisp or clear. The Bose Sounddock just makes it loud, distorted, and static. There is bass, but no crisp and clear sound.

What can I use for clarity and crispness?

Bose products in general tend to have heavy emphasis on the low and extreme high frequencies, giving that "static-y" quality you're hearing and distorting the bass. They're a half-step up in quality from the cheap brands (Coby, GPX, etc.) but they're cleverly marketed as "premium".

I have a Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere, and it puts out some nice, evenly balanced sound. It's compatible with every standard Dock-connector iPod. It's extremely slimline and portable, has a built-in rechargeable 10-hour battery, and when in use while plugged into an AC outlet, it'll charge both itself and the attached iPod. There's even a standard 1/8" stereo aux input for a shuffle or other sound source.

Granted, the sound won't fill a stadium, but it's a nice little box. Target and Best Buy usually have them, among others.
