what application would you guys suggest for editing live recordings? for example, taking out pops and clicks, removing background noise, etc?

I recorded a lecture, and there is so much background noise, i have a hard time listening to the speaker. Also, some FFT filters would be great.

On a side note, is there an application that can easily split up a recording into tracks so i can listen to it in my car and not have an hour long track and have to fast forward through the entire thing?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks!

I use Sound Studio for removing pops and clicks as well as removing silence from the beginning/end of AIFF files. I got it for free with my iMac.
