Sound volume from built-in speakers

Hello,
I have MacBook 2015 running 10.14
Recently I've bought a new Monitor that has also speakers. They are quite weak ... 2 wats.
I keep my laptop under the top of the desk hence I'd like to use Monitor's speakers .
My questions:
1. Could I enable both devices at the same time i.e. sound from Monitor and laptop speakers?
2. Could I boost the volume using software?

you need to be careful boosting volume on any device, as you could damage the speakers; usually, there's a logical relationship between the maximum volume on a device and software.

I tried again and my built-in speakers are much better than Monitor's.
I'll play with your suggestion and maybe not change anything if this could be harmful .
But how about enabling both?
Is it supported?

How do your monitor speakers connect to your Mac? Through HDMI or TOSlink? You can create a multi-output device in Audio Midi setup for the former - just open the app, click the + icon, and select both the internal speakers and the HDMI output.

My Monitor is connected via HDMI.
Where is Audio Midi setup located?
Do you think it’s a good idea to enable both sources or better use only built-in speakers?
