I've seen quite a few soundboard applications floating around on the appstore. Many of them are simply sounds and quotes clipped from movies.

Now for someone such as me, a complete beginner when it comes to any sort of software development, this seems like an easy and fun way to get started in apps.

However, (and excuse me if this is a dumb question) would I need to acquire rights to make an app featuring sound clips from a particular movie?

And if so, how would I go about doing so? Is it simply a matter of emailing the company?
