Free iPhone app - SoundHound with FREE unlimited IDs (was $4.99)
SoundHound is an app that can recognize a song for you by listening to your singing, humming, or sound source. There is a free version of it that allows 5 free IDs (the number of times it will recognize a song for you). You pay $4.99 for unlimited IDs.

However, if you write a review for SoundHound in the iTunes store, this will give you free unlimited IDs. I was under the impression that it only gives you a couple free ones but for some reason, after writing a review, my app was upgrade to the UNLIMITED IDs plan for free. I checked my purchase history to make sure this was not a mistake and so far there are no charges for the Unlimited Option ($4.99).

Get the free app here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/so...54941?mt=8
Then install it on your iPhone, iTouch, iPad, etc.
Immediately click the "Upgrade" button at the bottom (it will show that you have 5 IDs remaining)
Choose the first option to earn more id's" than review the app in the itunes store (scroll down until you see the rating stars and click on that, then choose to review it) MAKE SURE TO GIVE IT 5 STARS!
Review it however you want.
When you are finished, the icon that shows how many IDs remaining will go from 5 to infinity!

You can see at the bottom upgrade button it has gone from "5" to the infinity symbol :)

Glad I didn't purchase this!

Mines always been unlimited. I got this free back when it was "Midomi" and got grandfathered in.

Shazam is absolutely better. It found a totally obscure song from a video game I was playing while soundhound pulled up nothing no matter what part of the song.

I won't give it 5 stars even for free use. That is pure bs. plus sounds like a scam for 5 stars....

I prefer Shazam as well but that's because I prefer the simpler and cleaner interface, I've found no real difference between the recognition rates.

One killer feature that Soundhound does have though is that, if it can't get a network connection, it saves the sound clip in a "History" section that can be browsed and sent to the recognition engine later when network access is available.

This helped me today when I woke up and wanted to identify a song on my clock radio. I tried Shazam but unknown to me my router had locked up in the night so I had no WiFi connection on my phone. Shazam just timed out so I tried it again with SoundHound and that saved it in history so that after I rebooted my router I could identify the song.

One big use of these apps for me is while travelling so sometimes I don't have cost-effective network access (e.g. extortionate roaming rates) so offline mode is a big feature and the only reason I keep both apps on my phone.

The App even says it only is supposed to give you +2 tags, not infinity.

Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true.

Even I had gotten Midomi back then. How do I ensure I get grandfathered in? I reinstalled the Firmware from 2.x to 3.1.2.. the Apple iTunes account is the same though?

I just paid for the app with unlimited IDs yesterday. Oh well. It was worth it.
