Since Soundsource does not appear in the app store keeping track of updates is not easy even with auto update enabled. Always update through the application update tab. I had trouble doing it from the site for some reason. It loaded OK but at the time the new copy would not replace the old one even when told to do so.

MacOS 14.5 to MacOS 15

SoundSource 5.7.2
October 10, 2024

This includes and update to their Audio Capture Engine (ACE)

in the settings tab:

5.7.3 is out now and it fixes all the problems I had. The biggest was I was unable to hear sound with Airpods Pro. Even though they connected there was no sound until I closed Soundsource. A problem that still remains is that Apple Music is really distorted even If I don't add Apple Music as an application. A fix for this is to go to Settings > Audio and add Apple Music as an Exclusion. Restart Apple Music and sound is perfect again.

I have updated.🙏 I was turned on to this application by a sound engineer on another forum. I was brand new on the Mac Studio and I was, and still am very displeased with Apple's audio. The current ASUS ROG motherboards have 9.1 surround Dolby with Atmos. You can run all of that out to a DAC that can handle such a signal, it also has analog outputs for each one on these channels and you can put and audio amp on them. Monstrous sound.

If you are doing remote desktop stuff Soundsource is dead handy for controlling your audio.

I was a little disappointed in the sound quality of my iMac also, the sound of my 10 year old PC with the Realtek ALC-1150 codec sounds better than the iMac 2020. Would love to build a new PC but can't afford it and I'm not crazy about Windows.

Here is what you can do, I did this myself. I have the FiiO K7 DAC/Amp hooked up to my Mac Studio. There are 2 versions one has Bluetooth (K7BT) and the other doesn't, the one I have is the K7. Incredible sound, The K7 has USB, coaxial/Toslink digital, and RCA I/O's. I have found that with music having a surround Dolby system is a waste of time. A nice 2.1 system covers things nicely.

Looks nice. I have the Topping PA3s amp, to do the same thing, would I just need to get a DAC? I rarely use headphones I use Sony SS-CS5 speakers.

The FiiO K7 lets you have your cake and eat it too. It has a really good true balanced feed headphone amp, but it also has coaxial and optical, plus analog RCA outputs for a external audio amp, or amplified speakers.
