So im sure a lot of you have heard about the controversy around the latest south park episode.

Earlier today I went on iTunes to go download the latest episode onto my iPad, one of the two which are under scrutiny. When I went to go download it it said, "this can not be downloaded at this time" so I just tried to download the episode again on my iPad and it appears that comedy central pulled the episode off iTunes cuz it's no longer there!

Anyone by chance happen to get the 6th (200th) episode onto their ipads/iPhones before it was pulled?

I have it on my DVR (along with 201 which I haven't watched yet). It was pretty funny. But I'm really pissed at Comedy Central for caving and censoring 201.

Probably the last show I would have expected to cave to people being offended.

I thought that made it even funnier. I wouldn't be surprised if Matt and Trey did it intentionally.

The creators of southpark were threatened by muslim radicals, these radicals got a hold of their address and pictures and i read that what happened to Theo Van Gogh might happen to them if the next episode was aired...

So I guess for their safety, the episode was pulled off

Listen everyone, this South Park situation is more complicated than it sounds. What happened is that Matt and Trey were told the episode (201) would air without a problem, but CC censored huge chunks of the episode just before it aired. They even censored Muhammad's name in 201 (didn't in 200). Matt and Trey said the bleeped message at the end was only about "fear and intimidation" but still got censored. Then, CC went on to pull both episodes (200, 201) from TV (no re-runs), their website (including "Super Best Friends"), and iTunes. There is no unedited/uncensored version anywhere at the moment.

I can't believe CC made such a harsh censorship move by altering the episode, pulling it off TV, website, and iTunes for no apparent reason. Oh well, I suppose it does nothing but to reinforce the episode's message. CC are a bunch of losers.

EDIT: OK now I realize there have been threats.

I feel that this episode is REALLY about the fact that other celebrities who've been upset in the past by their portrayal on South Park see themselves as more holy than Muhammad.

South Park always has a deeper meaning that anyone with half a brain can recognize, but then a few more EVEN DEEPER meanings that go largely un-noticed.

Is Comedy Central going to bleep out any future Jesus references? I thought not...Cowards.

I downloaded 200. Saw 201 live, but have never found it on iTunes at all.

Comedy Central sucks @ss (as Cartman would say). What a pathetic organization to cower to these wack-jobs.

That does suck that it got censored and Comedy Central caved into a bunch of retarded radicals. I understand why they did it but still.

IMO if you think anything on the show south park resembles the deity you worship thats your problem. Anytime I see south park I don't get offended when I see Jesus on there even though I'm a Christian. I in no way associate the south park Jesus with the real Jesus. Its a show, and a show that loves to shock people and get a reaction.

Not to mention if you get offended by anything at all what on earth are you doing watching south park in the first place!?

I think you need to do a little more research my friend. A website was created by Muslim radicals outing Matt and Treys personal info and mentioning Theo Van Gogh who was killed. Sounds like a threat to me.

Death threats seem like a good reason to me. Get over it.

It sounds like a joke to me.
Episode about extremists threats, and real extremist threats after airing?

you are one cold fish to say that.

What are you talking about? You think comedy central shouldn't have beeped certain parts even though people's lives were being threatened? it's not like some animal activists came out and complained about an episode, these peoples lives were threatened. You would do the same if you worked for comedy central. JEEZ.

Unfortunately its no joke. Extremists are a very stupid, uneducated, easily manipulated group of people and all they like to do is kill each other and kill those who disagree with them.

Just take a look what happened in Africa (I believe Somalia) where they stoned a 12 year old rape victim to death because she had "sex" before she was married.

Not to mention the ordeal with the dutch cartoonist who drew a picture of muhammed with a bomb in his turban illustrating the very true point that people like to kill and then say it is in the name of religion. Just recently that guy had an attacker with an axe enter his house to try and kill him.

It's a sad place this world is turning into :(

It's time to write Comedy Central and all the advertisers that advertise during South Park to let them know you won't be watching CC anymore because of the censorship.

If I were Matt and Trey, given the power and resources they have now, I would be threatening to pull the entire series from the network.

Rob

It is cold to tell people to get over it because their lives were threatened. Terrorism is no reason to do anything...its trite but it bears mentioning that "the terrorists win" with that mentality.

WTF is the point of the episode itself when the ideas it is trying to speak about are the very thing that is being used against it?

To be fair, the references to Jesus in this thread are completley ridiculous. In no way is the portrayal of Jesus on television compareable to that of Muhammed.. a prophet who by the very nature of the Muslim religion, is not to be portrayed anywhere. Not even by followers of the faith, much less the producers of a western TV show.

I think South Park is absolute genius, but it's hardly surprising that this has been pulled. Considering all the fuss in the recent past over the cartoonist from Denmark, to pull the episode is probably the sensible option. I think it's very naive to think or expect that Comedy Central wouldn't edit or even air the episode, and probably naive to think that Matt and Trey didn't know what was going to happen. They aren't stupid and even considering South Park's history, they know where the line is. They will have known this was coming.

Not alot anybody can do about it, really. As has already been demonstrated above, anybody who wants to watch the episodes will be able to aquire them easily enough.

Really? According to who? Sorry, not all of us follow Islam and in countries with a right to free speech can say what we want and offend who we want. You may not like it, so turn the channel. Are you trying to justify death threats when someone says something you don't like?

The whole point of free speech is that no one has to fear for their life for expressing an opinion or making a statement criticizing religions, politicians, etc. Maybe we should all issue death threats when we hear something we don't like. Grow up.

It appears that he is posting from the U.K. Free speech died there years ago.

I absolutely disagree it was a sensible thing to do. That's Matt and Tre's entire point. Since the threat worked, it encourages extremists to use similar, dangerous, and unacceptable tatics regarding future issues. History is full of people considered heroes, because they stood up to threats and didn't allow them to be successful. I am in NO WAY saying that the South Park creators are historical heroes, but they do have a point that giving in to this **** only encourages it and makes everything worse.

It is cold to tell people to get over it because their lives were threatened.

Did you even read what I wrote? I was saying 'get over it" to the guy complaining that he couldn't believe that CC censored the episode, NOT that they were getting death threats. he said it was censored for no good reason, I said death threats are a good reason to censor it. I wasn't saying "get over it" to Matt and Trey getting death threats. Read before you run your mouth.

Exactly, the First Amendment to the constitution protects OFFENSIVE speech. There is no point in protecting non-offensive speech people. Matt and Trey should take their show to HBO.
