Haven’t seen a solid review on this model. How would the investment be on this?

currently rock a gold ss AW6, thinking the black would work flawlessly.

I have the SS Link Bracelet and it was absolutely worth it. Make the Apple Watch feel like a piece of jewelry.

I was also looking at the Hermès double tour/single tour bands, how would these stack up?

I don’t have any experience with the Hermes... but to me they are two different things altogether. The link bracelet is metal and makes the watch heavier and feel more substantial. I don’t think leather would do that for me.

Will be pairing with a gold SS AW6. Curious if the link bracelet will be a bit too heavy in that case. also, I believe I have smaller wrists so the double tour may be a better fit?

The link bracelet will accommodate smaller wrists as it has removable links. If you don’t like a heavier feel to the watch however, it may not be for you. I personally like the weight. Best to try it in an Apple Store if you can. Or buy it and just return it if you don’t like it. You really have to try it for yourself to know for sure.

I’ve had a link bracelet since space black stainless Series 4. It’s amazing. I’ve probably worn it everyday since I got it. I then got a Gold Stainless series’s 5 and it looked really smart - black and good. Smart. Now have 6 in graphite and it looks great still. Worth the investment.

I think only you can decide whether a $350-$450 band is “worth it”, OP. The value of such a band will vary from person to person. I own the band and really like it. In fact, I switched from the regular stainless to space black with the S5 just because I had always wanted to wear the matching link bracelet. Here are a few thoughts:
  • The band really elevates the look of the watch to something closer to jewelry. Pictures don’t really do it justice. It looks great in both casual and formal situations.
  • Like the SS watches, the space black link bracelet is very durable. See this thread for pictures of how it holds up over five years of regular use. The silver variant will pick up scratches, same as the watch. However, the brushed finish of the links does hide it better than the polished finish on the watch.
  • I would not think of this band as an “investment” in the financial sense. Very few Apple Watch bands appreciate in value once used, and the link bracelet is not one of those. You can easily find one used on eBay for around $200. Buy it because you like the look of the band and find the price worth it. Or, buy one used and get the look for about half the price!

Do you have any old pics of the gold and black combo by chance?

This isn't one. Save up and buy a nice old fashioned mechanical watch to wear once or twice a year. They're not as fun, and don't have the function of an AW. Take it from me & let me save you the trouble :)

Agreed on all points. You guys got me to break mine out yesterday & I remembered why I don't wear it more often.

It looks great (prolly the best of any band), but it's not as comfy as sport loops or bands. I could easily wear a loop 100% of the time.

If you're at a desk or out and about it's fine, but if you use a laptop and your wrist is wresting against it you'll try to be careful of scratching it. I am with my MBP. It also felt like it cut off circulation for a while and was uncomfortable as far as metal against skin against something else (fit was fine).

For office wear, it's fine.
For semi special occasions, sure.
Really special occasions, maybe if you don't want to wear something nicer and only really want to wear an AW.

I love mine, got one for dad and he digs it. It’s comfortable, has a lovely design, and makes the watch feel like.....a real watch. For comfort I choose the braided solo. Yet to try Hermès but there’s no deployment in 40mm

I'd wait to see if the Series 7 is compatible with the current watch bands honestly.. I've begun selling many of my bands in anticipation. I just have a gut feeling @athousandbands may cry this fall. lol
I hold my tongue when this evergreen topic rears its head only a mother could love, but I’ll say it one more time...the only thing that would necessitate making a new watch incompatible with the old bands is the watch case becoming so thin that the bands would look too thick.

Also let me update this opinion for the post-fall20 era...they just redesigned every class of band just to have to redesign them again a year later?

Aside from @athousandbands valid points, I’ll also add there is almost certainly zero chance of it changing when they still sell the old design S3. That’ll need to be at gone for at least a generation or two first.

I certainly wouldn’t sell anything just yet... 🙃

How is the Long term wear on it? I plan to purchase one when things open up like restaurants, etc so I can wait :)

I’ve got only one tiny scratch that shows the silver under. Had it since October. Quite durable.

What about the Chinese knockoffs? Are they comparable (maybe even same manufacturer without the Apple tax?)
I wouldn't bother with those. For me, part of the enjoyment of the link bracelet is appreciating that it's an authentic link bracelet from Apple. Sure, there are knockoffs that deliver the same look, but it would bother me too much knowing that I don't have the authentic version.

I have one and while I really like it and find it extremely comfortable (it's my daily), I think $500 (tax included) is too much. The bracelet is quite thin and it doesn't give you a solid and durable feeling like the bracelets from the traditional watches do. I don't know whether is was designed like that to keep the weight down and be comfortable, or to save on material cost. If it would be max. $350 (incl. tax), it would be worth it.
