Hi all,

I am in the process of moving back into the Apple ecosystem. Long story short, my last iPhone was the 4S. I moved to Windows Phone and then Android due to work. Now, I am looking at getting an iPhone 14 Pro Max 256GBs to complement my iPad 12.9" Pro 2021.

My question is: which colour should I go with?

I was originally thinking of going with space black; it fits with the grey design of Peak Design and the rest of my gear. As it was both out of stock and I came across a post here about how easy it is to scratch SB, I switched my mind to silver white was the colour of my 4S! Again, I saw conflicting comments about it having PVD or not, but an overall consensus that it is easy to scratch but can be buffed. I wouldn't mind buffing it once per year, but I don't want this to be a 'monthly' activity. But now, silver went out of stock with a 3 weeks ETA and SB came back into stock. What do you think?

Yes, I will be using a case, but my recent S21 experience got me worried about micro scratches. My S21 is almost as bad as if there was no case at all!

I also plan to pick a MagSafe-compatible wireless charger. Any opinions between the OEM and the Belkin BoostCharge Pro?

PS: I got IT at work to also order me a MBA M2 to use until at least MBPs M2 Pro come out. :D

First off I really exam whether you could go larger on the storage. I had a problem with my iPhone 11 Pro 64 GB and that was not buying enough at the beginning for storage. I do know that this time when I got iPhone 14 Pro space black I went to 256 GB but I really wanted the 512 version and it was a month out to get that and the carrier had the 256 Gb on hand on introduction day.

To me I really don't care of the color as I am going to put on a Otterbox Defender on my phone and did The only one who is going to see my iPhone naked is me. So it really doesn't matter what color a phone is except if they offered hot pink I think I take pass on that. I just never got into the color thing but I think black shows the least amounts of scuffs and damage from a foot away. My iPhone 11 Pro was a gold color and since it had the Otterbox from the day I bought it when I traded it in after 3 years there was not a nick, scratch or dent on the phone.

On the MagSafe puck I have one and actually never even use it as it slower then just plugging into a 20 watt charger brick that I got from apple.

Thank you for the response! I think, 256GB should be enough. My current S21 is using less than 100GBs out of 128GB. I mostly use my mirrorless cameras for photos. I expect to take more videos with the iPhone (expanding family :)), but still not enough to warrant 512GB.

Thanks! I was a big fan of Otterbox, until the Strada scratched my S21's screen due to the bad design of its card holder. Now, I am looking at PD as my daily driver and a UAG when outdoors.

The thing is I used the Otterbox Defender Pro series for the past 8 years and I never had an issue with it damaging anything. I do not know the other series that Otterbox makes as I am only familiar with the Defender Pro. I do know that the hard plastic holster that Otterbox provided was junk on the iPhone 11 series as I had three replacements sent to by Otterbox and all of them broke on the bottom outboard support for the phone. It got to the point I finally just gave up and started to pocket the phone or leave the phone on my toolbox in my shop. Since I was retired I have nobody walking away with my phone so no big deal as I controlled the environment. The other part is you still need to buy a screen protector and I have a cheap one glass one on my phone and it to me it doesn't matter which brand as the screen protectors are uber cheap on amazon and it just get it all scratched up I pop another one on.

If you want a really NICE looking phone, get the silver. It’s reaaallly nice looking.

The black is meh. But if it matches the rest of your gear, go for it.

The silver gives me white 5s vibes. Especially with the silver glint around the screen.

Good luck deciding

Get the silver and Otterbox Commuter.

That is what I have. 2 seconds to get it out of that Otterbox and just as easy to get it back on. There is no coating on the silver so you can buff it out. For you OCD types, the fact you can buff it out means you don’t have that anxiety with the other colors where a scratch is obvious and permanent. So you leave it and then discover the phone actually looks ok with micro scratches all over it - just like my SS Apple Watch.

Then you are free… 😀👍

Thank you all! It looks like silver has won! It is an extra week or two of waiting, but not a problem. Plus, it feels like a cycle continues given that my last iPhone was white!

Get the silver and Otterbox Commuter.
Even if I am still sour with the brand, I will check out this case.

Space Black - My favourite iPhone EVER. However, the silver/white is really nice as well.

Can't really go wrong with any colour this year, all nice IMO.

You can't go wrong with either color but I really enjoy the Silver I own. Don't base your decision on online photos--try to see each color in person.

The stainless steel frame around the space black is black, so does not distract if you look at the screen. With the silver you will notice the stainless steel frame more if you go silver. Make sure this is not a problem if you choose silver.

I saw the Space Black in person, which I ended up liking more. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a silver 14PM in any of the local stores. I saw a silver 13 Pro, which I assume has the same frame and only the back panel is of a different hue.

This is a good point.

I originally got the space grey 11 pro max
then decided to get the silver 12 pro max when I upgraded it looks amazing but scratches very easily like putting into the case gets it scratched I also tried buffing the scratches but will never be as factory finish.
so I traded my silver 12 pro max to a graphite 12 pro max and decided not to get sliver ever again
the graphite and all the other colors don't scratch easily specially if you put a case on
If you don't like scratches don't get the silver
