Hey all

The Space Marine demo is now available on steam... been trying it out and it's not bad for a mindless killing-spree :)

Runs at about 30fps on high on my MBP 2011 (750/950) @ 1680x1050 but does drop a bit when there is lots going on... Will probably back the settings off a bit for optimal slaughter.

Worth a blast if you like a bit of 40k :)

I like everything about the game except the combat. I love how the guns feel, I love Warhammer, I love the sound design. It's just a bit too slow for me.

You think I could play fluid on a Macbook pro 15" (specs you have), at 1280x800, with high settings and no over clock?

Should be fine. I played it 1280x800 with medium settings on this 13" MBP (low shadows and high visual FX, no post processing) and only had a little slowdown.

i tried it on the PS3, is it just me or are the guns useless 90% of the time ?

i went with chain sword and pistol, i think i used the pistol 3 times to take out the odd enemy on a ledge, as the rest of the enemies all charged in to melee range.

It felt like i was playing Devil May Cry, but without the style and fun.

glad i didn't drop the cash for the collectors edition, think ill stick to painting the models, thats more fun than this game IMO.

I suspect it's a game whose enjoyment is directly proportional to how skilled you get in slaughtering the enemy hordes. I struggled mightily with the whole "execute to regenerate health" mechanic, so my enjoyment level was pretty low. (Translation: I sucked.)

actually, warhammer 40K wasn't third person shooter game at all. it was all about strategy genre for a long time. that's why I didn't play at all. I hate strategy game. when you see gameplay, it's like WOW, Star craft 2 or something. you have to deal with the horde of enemies. that's the main combat you have to deal with. anyway, Relic (game maker) transformed from strategy to third person shooter which wasn't easy. they still have to keep original story, concept of the whole game. I think that they did right way. no real cover. you have to kill them all with your skill. that's all about this game. I love this game after playing demo few times. it's definitely stress blowing game. that's what I want. by the way, this game is totally different from gears of wars. don't get wrong.

While they may have several differences, this Warhammer game does feel quite a bit like Gears of War (even though it's better than that popular piece of trash, I still don't like it).

Also, I don't think anybody claimed Warhammer wasn't a strategy game? I gather english isn't your first language but that statement still doesn't make sense. :?

English is not my native. so what? what do you try to tell me, huh? sometimes someone like you mention language. do you even speak foreign language? as far as I know, your grammar isn't even totally correct. that's so much about damn your native English, huh? don't try to teach something here. my post makes sense. you just don't understand.

It's not that it doesn't make sense due to sentence structure, your post just doesn't make sense in context. Also, I do happen to speak 2 other languages with partial fluency. I'm not hating on you at all. Why all the hostility? Seriously chill out.

I don't know. I used to play 40k with friends about 2 decades back and I like the whole style it conveys, which they captured it in this demo, but overall, IMO, the gameplay came off as I've been there and done that and ended up leaving before completing it. I also really didn't like how it handled guns. It seemed as if the game really didn't care much about where I shot an Orc, but more so about how many times I hit them.

It Shipped!

Alright, I got a shipping confirmation of my preorder edition, getting here on September 7th! 2 days before the release date? AWESOME!

I've pre-ordered the game on the strength of the demo, surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It runs very well on my '09 i5 iMac, about 40fps on 2560x1440. Considering it was originally going to be consoles only, it's a surprisingly good port. Plus, it's a shed load better then **shudder** Firewarrior.

Cheers! It's wonderful to hear that you got such good results. What sort of a graphics card were you on? ATI HD 4xxx series, right?

^^ Yup, 4850 overclocked heavily, MSI afterburner FTW. I was surprised at how well Space Marine runs (and it's also a testament to how good the Radeon 4xxx series was).
