Couldn't find a thread to dump this in - thought people might enjoy it. Visit http://www.heavens-above.com if you want to find out when the Space Station or Space Shuttle are flying over head (or Iridium satellites...they're VERY cool)

This is a series of shots I took last night. Canon 400D. ISO 400. 15s exposures.

Excellent site. Thanks for posting. Seems like we only ever hear about eclipses and major events like that, but there's so much more going on up there - both man-made and natural - that it's nice to have a bit of advice on when and where to look.

I really like the photo too.

It doesn't seem very animated upon clicking on it. Same thing, just bigger... and static. Latest Safari here.

Yup - that's the international space station last night, about half past eleven. Even though those are each crazy long exposures, it does sort of feel 'that bright' when you see it for real. Now the station has all it's solar arrays (nearly an acre of them) - it's amazingly bright!

What I'M REALLY hoping for is the Shuttle launch to go ahead tonight or tomorrow. If it happens, then we SHOULD get to see the Shuttle and it's discarded external tank going over head about 19 mins after launch.

Iridium flares ( never photographed one well ) are a great party trick. The predictions are accurate to literally a few seconds - so you can say "I AM THE STAR KING...FEEL MY POWER" point up at the sky and bingo - there goes an iridium flare :D

Ok - I've not done that.

Haha, that would be awesome!! I'd love to be the person who does that.

What I think amazes me about space is the size of it. I just cant get my head round how big it is!

It's big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.

;)

Worked fine for me on Safari 4.1 Just had to wait 20 seconds or so for it to kick in. Great shots.

If you could drive, it's only about an hour to space :)

But it would take 21 days, at airliner speed, to get to the Moon :D

Whenever I want to exercise my brain - I look at this

Then I go and look at pictures put on the web that were taken by a Mars Rover on the same day - literally, 12 hrs old, and think "We're getting there"

Damn, I cant drive yet..... but I'm learning. It's gonna be a long cycle ride!
