I've heard around 500megs is being used from the 8GB(7.4GB) for OSX but i want to know how much is left over.

this is a screen i took watching the iphone introduction at 11:25secs

i remember looking at a higher resolution picture of that slide some where else and i cant find it maybe you could help me out?

So far this is what i got

Green = Unknown (Wolf? Work?)
Blue = Audio
Purple = Video
Yellow = Pictures
Orange = Other
White = Free Space

i'm in the progress of downloading the mac world keynote from itunes podcast.

There is a whole OS on the iPhone, not as big as the one that comes on new macs, but fairly big to enable all the functionality. It'll take up some of the space that could house your music, so the 4GB iPhone wont hold 1000 songs (and if you use iTunes plus even less), etc...

understandable i'm aiming for a 8gb because its 100 dollars more for twice the size. But 4GB sticks are not priced at 100 dollars. In the long run i'd be happy with a 8GB phone.

I was awarded being the best ipod tech agent and they gave me a 4gb ipod nano during my internship at apple, its only got about 2GBs of music (ROFL i have 5500+ songs worth 23gbs)

I knew it had a full OS but i wanted to know how much still.

But now this brings up a new question
whats this green stuff filled in front of audio?

I like that it says the capacity is 8GB instead of 7.xGB do you think that the slide was not an actual screen shot of the iPhone being synced, or did they put more memory in it so it is an actual 8GB?

whoa haven't noticed that

maybe they made a mock up

maybe they have an internal flash memory thats only for firmware (OSX)
but they wouldn't make it 8.0GB exact.

someone please tell me whats the green bar before audio

Ringtones?

I'm looking at that phone number in the second screen shot and I'm wondering what would happen if I called that.

Edit: Just googled the phone number, and it's Steve's real number. Maybe I should give him a call, be like "what's up?".

Go ahead and call it. There was discussion about this when they first showed it. It is apple support.

I think it is a mockup. They obviously changed the phone number, unless the apple support line is now on an iPhone. I have never seen a flash drive or hard drive exact to the amount it says it is. There is one other explanation, that is the capacity shown there is never going to be the real capacity, rather iTunes just categorizes it as a 4 or an 8.

From what I see and what you originally posted, it seems to be a short word.

My guess is it is something really important but I also dont think it is something that matters to us much. That much space, it certainly isnt notes. Notes will probably go with contacts in 'Other'. My best guess is OS X. It makes sense... what would be put above Audio, Video, Podcasts, and Other? The OS has to be somewhere in there and it does look to be about the right proportion.

yea its a small word maybe OSX but doesnt seem like it would be and i think its important since its before music and a new color that i havent seen thought itunes. also i tunes gives you the correct capacity when you plug in your ipod.

-All

OS X is actually quite slim and trim once you remove all the printer drivers, unnecessary language packs, and keyboard layouts.

500mb seems a very accurate estimate.
