I use outlook express for my work emails. All of a sudden I've been getting a decent amount of spam. This is not a problem on my windows pc as outlook doesn't notify you of spam emails, it just simply puts them in the spam folder. I've noticed however, that my iphone (and I have my email loaded through exchange), gives me notifications of all emails, including spam. Is there anyone to set it so that spam emails are ignored (so that it doesn't pop up on my lock screen or interrupt what im doing by dropping down from the top)?

No. I assume there is no way to achieve this.
I frequently receive spam emails from various sites , and few of them are being filtered by mail app on iOS. Only thing I can do is keeping my PC on all the time so that outlook 2016 would help filtering them out. But such does not prevent some emails let mail app showing unread badge.

For an Exchange account in iOS, go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Your Account and see what folders are being pushed. What you're describing could be the "Junk Email" folder being checked.
Yeah, this could be a solution. However, if spam goes straight into inbox, then this trick would not work.
Realistically the real underlying solution (and for more than even the notification related reasons brought up here) is to somehow make sure spam doesn't even get to the inbox.
And this is what mail service provider does for us. Unfortunately, sometimes it is not enough.
I almost believe spam filtering is a combination of automation and human curation.
PC filters them into spam box. But iOS mail app does not. I have received multiple spam mails going straight into inbox, thus triggering a notification.
I think Apple mail app does not properly process spam mails itself. Instead, it relies on mail service provider's setting to block junk emails. Apple mail app does however, mark spam as "junk".
