Hi all,

I have a link bracelet which I've had for a few years now and I really love it. In fact, I love it so much that I'm kind of scared to wear it in case it breaks and this got me thinking - should I buy a spare one from eBay in case it breaks or would the spare links that came with it be enough to fix most issues?

Has anyone had any experience of their link bracelet breaking and can give any advice?

The link bracelet is quite sturdy. I can recall reading of only one instance where one has failed, and it was a person who had gotten the band on launch day in 2015 and wore it daily for 5 years. His band failed when one of the replaceable link mechanisms broke, at which point he replaced the broken link and went back on wearing the band. I don’t think you have much to worry about as far as the band failing unless you are being really hard on it in some way.

The question you have asked is similar to someone looking at an extended warranty. When you buy an extended warranty, you are pre-paying an amount now and betting the product will fail later on, at which point you are saved from a larger repair bill. However, if the product does not break, you wasted money on the warranty. In most cases you are better off skipping the extended warranty and saving the money to self insure if something breaks. That is doubly true here since you would pay the same amount to buy a second band whether you buy it now or wait until if you needed to replace your current one. Since the costs are the same, why would you buy a replacement now rather than waiting to see if you actually need one?

Wear the link bracelet and enjoy it. It’s a beautiful band and any failure is both unlikely and can likely be fixed with a spare link. In any case, you don’t gain anything by buying a second band now and could be throwing money away.
