I've just noticed this problem today, I'm not getting any sound when in speaker mode or when I plug in my earphones during a phone call. The normal handset speaker works. Music, ringtones and otherwise work through the earphones and speaker. I have restored my phone twice and that did not fix it. I did not restore any backup or sync, just the fresh firmware. Does anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT: I can hear the tones of the keypad through the speakerphone and earphones when I press the keypad on the iPhone during a call, but I can't hear whatever the other side is saying unless I yank out the earphones or disable speakerphone. This problem is very weird indeed. I'm on my 3rd restore now.

Have the same issue

Please let me know if you find a fix. I'm thinking about taking mine in to an Apple store but would love to figure out a soft-fix for the problem.

did not help

Thanks for the reply but switching between sources doesn't seem to help. Iphone bluetooth headset works, iphone ear speaker works, speaker phone does not.

another note

Another interesting note: When I plug headphones to the headphone jack, no call sound comes through. Though, like the speaker phone, number pad tones do.

Try to get an exchange on the headphones.. They are covered under the 1 year warranty.. Just take them to the store you bought it.. Maybe a short in the wires or something..

Not the issue

The headphones are not my actual complaint. The problem is with the speakerphone not working during calls. I was just noting that there is a similar problem with the headphones. I thought it was interesting that both have issues. Makes me think there is a software fix for this.

Not a problem with the headphones...

Basically its a problem with the software and the actual heaphone jacks hardware. it keeps thinking that when headphone jack is empty its actually full and vice versa, so thats why the sound comes back after putting the headphones in and when theyre out the sound is running through the headphone jack which since has nothing in it no sound at all.
Dont know of a solution and am still looking, will let you know if i find out. sometimes i find it fixes itself

I am having a similar problem. The "mic" on my headphones is not working when you click it or talk through it. It is not the headphones that are messed up. I tried my headphones on a different iphone and they worked fine.

I think my phone is no longer compatibile with the mic on the headphones. Anyone know if you can use XBM (exchange by mail) to get a new/refurb iphone? Or get a new iphone from visiting a apple store?
