Speaker-phone when in car

I've read reports of the speakerphone volume being a bit low - does that mean it'll be unusable in a car while at motorway speeds (except perhaps an S-Class or something ultra-luxury which is whisper quiet )?

My car is sorted with a bluetooth handsfree kit connected to the stereo etc., but I'm just thinking about the times I have to drive the works van, and drive rental vehicles, etc.

I've never used a bluetooth headset before, and don't really want to start now (just something else to carry around/keep charged which I'd only use in the above rare situations).

Nice - out of interest, approx. what speed were you doing (ie. where you at cruising speeds), and what car do you have (ie. is it just normal or particularly quiet!)?

Do the volumes "save" independantly on the iPhone - ie. if you change the ipod volume with the volume control to 8/10, the phone volume while you're on the call to 9/10, and the speakerphone volume while the speakerphone's on to 6/10, will all of these values be saved, until you choose to alter them individually again?

I was doing around 45mph in my Audi A4 which isn't the quietest of cars once you get going.

The iPhone does saves all your volume settings.

Were you actually on a call then while you had the speakerphone on, or just listening to voicemail etc.? If so, could the person you were calling hear you ok without you having to shout, and where did you have the phone mounted/placed in relation to your mouth?!

I had the phone at about chest level. Speaking normally. The speaker is very powerful, I'd say the built in speaker is louder than the ones built into the MacBook, but who knows if that is in fact true.

Cool, thanks. I just heard others said the speaker is very low (along with the vibrate being weak).

Mark, I don't know what this other guy is smokin' but the speaker is low--no way does it come even close to the volume of the MacBook or any Mac for that matter. Maybe not very low, but low nonetheless. I'm sure Apple will fix this with a software update in the coming days. Also, yes, the vibrate function is weak, but it gets the job done. Just don't expect it to vibrate off a table when a call comes through.

OK, would you say it's usable in a car at cruising speeds though?

And as for the vibrate - as long as I can feel it when it's in my pocket, that's all that matters! Does it also vibrate for texts/calendar events while both in RING and SILENT modes by the way (as well as vibrating for incoming call)?
