Speaker problem with ML

On ML, every once and a while the speakers don't play anything, the volume can't be adjusted, and all the audio stuff seems disabled. If you try to play a video on Safari, it won't do anything, if you try to play an iTunes song it won't start. Everything else seems normal, but a restart seems to be the only fix.

Has anyone else experienced this, anyone have a fix?

When you say disabled, do you mean in system preferences that you cannot change the default output device and such?

No, but the output device does not list the built in speakers
