Speaker very distorted

I don't expect much from this external speaker, but is anyone elses speaker too distorted to even listen to music? I only really use it for YouTube, which I rarely use, but when messing around with music I noticed that even at low volumes the speaker is very distorted and hardly usable for music.

Is this the norm, or do I have a bad speaker?

Just the way the speaker is, I think. I don't care much cause if I'm ever listening to anything, I use my headphones - my only frustration is that it's too distorted to even have mp3's set as ringtones because they sound just that bad.

I noticed that when turning off the EQ setting that the external speaker sounded remarkably better. Kind of obvious I guess but I was pleased.

EQ Settings

I've found that this is related to the EQ settings. When you have the headphones in everthing sounds great. What I did to fix the distortion problem is go into settings and select ipod and set your EQ to "Bass Reduciton" This fixed the problem entirely for me. It seems that the EQ settings are overdriving the little speaker.

I think apple should have in the firmware somewhere some sort of code that knows there are no headphones plugged in and defaults to this setting to compensate for the speaker's limitations.

I had the distortion problem but before I went to return it I read your post man it does make a huge difference now sounds crystal clear!! thanks man!!
