If you play a song (or some audio/video) and the earphones aren't plugged in, does the audio come through the iPhone's speaker?

If so, what's the quality like? I know it won't be great, but is it listenable? Some phone speakers sound terrible (really harsh and trebly), while some don't sound too bad at all, for ringtones etc.

The speaker is surprisingly very clear and pretty loud enough too.

Cool - it's one speaker and one mic underneath though isn't it (ie. not 2 stereo speakers)?

If you're listening to the iPod through the speaker, and put your iPhone to sleep (ie. display off), does the ipod still function?

Also, if you're say in ipod mode flicking through artists...and put your iphone to sleep...when you wake it up, does it go back to that ipod/artist page, or everytime you wake it up does it just go straight to the homescreen?
