Hey guys I'm looking to buy some speakers for my iMac. They need to be LOUD. As loud as I can get. I don't really have a budget here but anyways what do you guys suggest for speakers? I have heard good things about JBL's products.

Cheers!

I adore my JBL Creature 2s, but A LOT of people on here are at quite the other end of the scale, but as I'm not a pro user I think they are more than what I need, nice and loud and as far as I'm concerned they are a good sound.

Also, though a bit more expensive the Harman Kardon soundsticks seem to be a damn good speaker, though i don't much like the design of the sub. Or the speakers come to that...

If you don't care so much about sound quality, but just want volume, get the Logitech Z2300. They get VERY loud and have decent levels, but overblown lows and pretty shiddy highs. The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers are the best bang for your buck, amazing sound quality, highs mids and lows are crystal clear and balanced, and they get quite loud - but not as loud as the 2300s. If I were you I would buy the Klipsch, they're THX certified and have been largely agreed on as the best 2.1 speakers you can buy, but it's up to you what you value more. I also own the Creature2 speakers, not bad, but they don't get very loud.

I just bought the amazing Altec Lansing FX6021's, look em up. You can get em as cheap as 150 in certain websites. They go so insanely loud without losing clairity it is mind blowing. If you want volume these are perfect. The satellites each have 6 1-inch speakers, and the sub has a massive 6.5 inch woofer. They are crazy, I can shake the whole house if I want to. (I did it yesterday  )

I have them too, perfect for dorm life

get a nice HK digital reciever and 7.1 HK speakers. I have 15 year old 5.1 HK speakers and they just insanely good, though analog. If price is no matter get some nice digital sound

I've got some HK Soundsticks now, having sent back some Creature II speakers because they were such crap. Frankly, these are pretty much as good as I need: loud as hell, pretty good balance over the spectrum, minimal distortion. I would heartily recommend them. :)

Altec Lansing MX5021 THX 2.1 are LOUD

I've got some white Altec Lansing MX5021 THX 2.1 speakers and they are awesomely load, and don't distort either. Brilliant sound quality and massive bass, really do love them would get the same again any time.

i also would recommend the klipsch speakers. i have them and love them, great sound and they definitely get loud. the only thing i dislike about them is that the power switch is on the backside of the sub. this is annoying if you keep your sub under your desk or something like most people do.

I use the Harmen Soundsticks II - excellent sound quality and a wicked bass.

Hello MacRumors!

i would recommend the Harman Kardon Soundsticks II...i have them and they BANG HARD! Good quality, loud, good lookin'...best speakers i have ever had.

I said get some nice 7.1 HK speakers, not crappy soundsticks:p

Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia THX

They are unbeleivable. I also agree....easily the best 2.1 system out there....and has been for a while.

i have known people to have the creature and the soundsticks.....they just don't compare quality wise.

they get LOUD with no distortion....it's pretty amazing really.

I wouldn't buy anything else after having had these.

I used to work at Best Buy and we sold all of these speakers. I felt that the best bang for the buck were the Logitech X-530, I think I picked them up for $79.99. I have a pair and they are super loud. Being a college student, my iMac is also my TV so when it comes to watching movies these things hit very hard. If you're not too concerned with the price I would go anything Klipsch, absolutely AWESOME product, but very pricey. :D

Studiophile

I gave this same question a lot of thought and eventually opted for a pair of M-Audio Studiophile DX-4 speakers for my new iMac 24". They arrived today and after a few hours with them I couldn't be happier. The sound is beautifully clear and plenty loud. They were 144 euros here in Germany.

I had been thinking about the Soundsticks and the Klipsch GMX A2.1, which both cost about the same in Europe. In the end I decided to prioritise music over film so went the straightforward stereo route. The Klipsch may well be better for DVD playback.
