Anyone have any major complaints about the speakers on the macbook, and if theres any difference in the speakers they use in the macbook and the macbook pro. Of course, im probably going to get a decent set of external speakers...but its always good to know! thanks!

I heard the MBP speakers are much better than the MB, but haven't tested any of them myself.
I'm thinking of switching buying a MB next year, but the speakers won't be a problem... it has audio out so my room speakers will handle my songs very well :D
Or I could use AirTunes, who knows...

I don't know if I would say the absolute worst in any notebook since I haven't owned or listened to every notebook every made... but they aren't exactly the loudest in the world.

As far as audio quality goes... they are decent IMO, but by no means great. But it is a notebook, what do you expect?

Ugh. The MB's speakers seem to be worse than my previous 12" iBook and 12" PB. They're pretty bad and I am definitely not an audiophile. :p

They are absolutely THE worst speakers I have ever heard on a laptop. Its the MacBooks biggest flaw next to the GMA950 GPU.

I completely agree... I've owned quite a few notebook computers in the past few years (15ish) and I must say the MB has VERY weak sound in every aspect. That being said, sound is not my #1 priority, but I would like to hear the soundtrack of a movie without putting my ears next to the computer. Seems to be an :apple: thing though... My iphone has very bad speakers too! Love it anyway:)

They're not too bad. Plenty loud enough for me (I use my laptop on my lap so I'm never too far away from them). Much better than the speakers in my last laptop that crackled with interference all the time (even when not in use). Given the screen size, its not like you're gonna be too far from the macbook anyway.
tl;dr Macbook speakers are adequate, don't let them put you off.

oh ok..thanks guys...anyone know about the MBP speakers?

While they are not the best speakers an audio engineer ever put together... they sure do sound good enough for laptop speakers.

Personally, I think that they are a lot better than the MB's speakers. They are fairly loud in a dorm room- and the quality is pretty decent for what you can expect out of a laptop.

On my 15" SR MBP (not sure if there is any difference between models) the speakers are the worst of any laptop on my dorm room's hall. All the HPs and Dells blow it away. They don't even go loud enough for a few people to crowd around watching a movie, and they sound terrible.

On the other hand I know a girl here who has a PowerBook with absolutely amazing speakers. She said that they were some sort of custom Bose speakers that she had had installed. Not sure if such options are still available, or if it really matters that much to you, just tossing that out there.
