Bookshop!
they are tiny, but acceptable. If you find low quality speakers enough to make your ears bleed, you might want to consider buying headphones.

Worse than some, better than others but generally speaking smaller laptop audio is pretty terrible, including the Macbook. Don't consider using them for long - invest in headphones or external speakers.

i have a macbook pro, and though there is a distinct lack of bass, i do believe that the speakers are not that bad compared to many i have heard. the macbook on the other hand has lower quality audio imo.

Laptops don't have "good" sound, they just have sound, lol. The MB has crappy sounding speakers, but thats not my issue with them. They just aren't loud enough to me. At full volume, I can't watch a DVD movie comfortably on it, the dialogue is too low to hear. The 17" MBP has extra speaker drivers in them, so they were definately louder.
In either case, a nice set of headphones or portable speakers or something would be a good idea.

No laptops have good sound. They aren't designed to be portable hifis. I think the sound on my MacBook Pro is actually quite good for a laptop, but I don't really care. As long as I can hear notifications like iChat sounds, then it does it's job. If you want a pair of decent stylish headphones, get something like the B&O A8s...

Is it fair to say that a current Macbook Pro 15" would song better than an iBook G4 12"?

I'm just asking because my girlfriend is buying a new MBP on Friday, she's had an iBook for 2 years and would like to know if she'll be getting a decent boost in sound quality?
